Due to the politicizing of the pandemic, the lives lost were never properly acknowledged, particularly in the United States.  Every life lost deserves honorable remembrance. This memorial recognizes those lives, the beautiful lights that were extinguished too early.

My concept for the Memorial is based on Minecraft map art. There are 213 countries represented in the memorial, each with their own map plot.  Copies of the country maps are displayed in the Heart of Memorial area, which is centered around the "Light of a Thousand Souls" display.  This is a black map plot containing 1,000 white dots.  Each white dot represents the light of one person’s life.  Copies of the "Light of a Thousand Souls" map are contained within black dots on the country plots, so that each black dot represents 1000 lives lost.
